Or can I call you Vlad? I would call you president, but in truth, we all know you weren’t legitimately elected into the presidency. But I digress.
Thank you for your inspiring letter to the American people in the NY Times dated, ironically, 9.11.13. And by inspiring I mean ridiculous. Although I’ll give you credit for having the huevos (look it up) to write (or hire/force/coerce/etc. someone to write as it were), seeing as how yours is the very country supplying Syria with the chemical weapons in question in the first place. Didn’t you think we’d notice? Granted, if you were to watch American television and ‘Reality TV’ - and I suspect you do - you would have good reason to think of us as a country of buffoons, full of greed and self aggrandizement, but it’s not really real (surprise!) nor an accurate description of who we, the American people, are. Generally speaking of course - I do know a few people who are buffoons and self aggrandizing, but don’t we all, regardless of the country in which we live?!
True, we do have our faults (Obama for instance), but we also have our good moments (see The Revolutionary War and Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, etc.). In fact, in spite of our many misgivings we do a lot of good things for the people of this world, including for the very people you benevolently rule over. To suggest that our proposed military actions against an evil ruler who murders his own people (thisis NOT in dispute by-the-way) are somehow wrong or misguided only proves my point. Then again Assad has not even begun to come close to the 20-60 million people Stalin was responsible for killing, so perhaps your point-of-view is a little understandably skewed, relatively speaking.
In the true spirit of America, albeit a somewhat misunderstood spirit, at least by you, we are willing to forgive and mostly forget, but it’s going to require a little bit more on your part than some crafty propaganda and political finagling. We need to see some honesty and integrity on your part. Not the kind we can read about in Russian controlled news media and blogs (do you actually allow real blogs in Russia?), but the kind that can be seen and clearly discerned by the free people and news agencies of this planet we call earth (and home, mostly). And your going to have to stop supplying (a.k.a. selling) weaponry of all kinds to war-mongering dictators and rulers, and earn your money (a.k.a. create economic opportunities) the mostly-honest way like the rest of us (hint: capitalism arguably works pretty well). Oh, and one other thing: you’re going to have to reasonably limit your, uh, public service, and allow honest, open, non-government-controlled voting for all government offices including your own. We call that democracy. And we all call that exceptional.
It’s getting late and I have to get up early to participate in a service project (that’s where we go and volunteer to help other people or organizations out of our own free will and choice), so I must end my letter and shortly retire to bed.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and unbiased, non-judgemental words of caution, wisdom, goodness and mercy (wow, that’s a mouth-full!).
All the best (and by best I mean karma will catch up with you at some point sir),
Free Citizen of the United States of America
And thank you for coming along for the ride. I hope you’ll find something here to inspire you the way others have inspired me.
